Belvide Reservoir - 27 Feb 19

A few photos from the West Midlands Bird Club’s private reserve at Belvide

I have no real idea what this Grey Heron was doing: I can only assuming it was collecting – or trying to collect – nesting material. Grey Herons are an early nesting species and there is a heronry close-by at Gailey.

Seems tricky to do without losing your balance.

I guess it would have to break off one of these stalks.

A fine drake Teal.

I couldn’t decide which side looked best.

And here he is again with his very plain partner.

Nothing special just a portrait of a Great Crested Grebe with all the breeding finery sleeked back (and some wing feathers out of place).

A fine day so the Buzzards are on the wing.

Looking rather fierce.

One of the many brown lacewing sps., likely of the genus Hemerobius and difficult to specifically identify.

A silhouette view. Amazing pattern of veins in the wings.
